Thematic meeting – What is the role of research in Film and Media Schools?

Research plays an increasing role in Higher Education Institutions. Pressure from accreditation bodies and the need to increase the articulation between education and research at all levels, require that Film and Arts reflect upon their practices and how to position themselves in this context. Considering this, GEECT is organizing a Thematic Meeting on the topic of research in Film and Media Schools at The Stockholm University of Arts on the 22nd of January 2020 with the goal of discussing the different approaches to research these schools can take, reflect upon best practices and enunciate potential areas of synergies and collaboration. This will be a one day event targeting Heads of Schools, Heads of Research and teachers involved in research activities in the different member schools. Besides a key note on the core topic of defining “What is research in Film and Media Arts institutions” by Andrea Braidt, President of ELIA, European League of the Institutes of the Arts, the event will also include the showcase of several examples of best practice and in-depth discussion between participants. A call is open for member schools to present their examples of best practices or relevant case studies. We urge all schools to participate!

The event will occur in the context of the Stockholm University of the Arts annual Research Week which takes place between January 21 and 24, 2020. The purpose of the Research Week is to share, experience and exchange the many different approaches to, and perspectives on the artistic research happening within the university. Thursday January 23 will focus on Film and Media.
